Anuradhapura | Jaffna

Anuradhapura / Jaffna Breakfast at the Hotel. Do the City tour in Anuradhapura in the Morning Anuradhapura - the capital of Sri Lanka from the 05 th Century B.C. to the end of the 10 th Century A.D. was the most celebrated of Sri Lanka’s ancient ruined cities. The city’s greatest treasures are its dagobas constructed of bricks and are hemispherical in shape. The most notable of these dagobas are the Ruvanveliseya dating back to the 2nd Century B.C. and is 300 feet in diameter, the Jetawanarama is 370 feet and the Thuparama Dagoba is enshrined with the collarbone of the Buddha. Sacred Bo Tree - The city’s most renowned relic is the sacred Bo Tree, which is said to have grown from a branch of the tree under which the Buddha gained Enlightenment. It was planted 2250 years ago and is the oldest historically authenticated tree in the world. Jethawana Stupa is the largest stupa in the Sri Lanka. It was originally 400 feet (122 meters) in height and was the third tallest building in the world at that time. Even today as a brick monument, Jethawanaramaya still remains the tallest of its kind in the world.Jethawanaramaya was built by King Mahasena of Anuradhapura (276-303) was completed by his son Sirimeghavanna. It is believed that this monument was built upon the enclosure where Mahinda Maha Thero was cremated. Recent excavation in the stupa has unearthed a one meter thick brick wall adjacent to a layer of ash and charcoal. This is believed to be the chamber where the remains of the great thero rest. Jaffna Breakfast at the Hotel & Transfer to Nainathiv island to Visit Nagadeepa Rajamaha Viharaya The Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya is one of the sixteen most sacred places of worship by the Buddhists in Sri Lanka. Pilgrims have been coming to the Nagadeepa since about the 1st century AC to worship at its famous Rajayathana stupa. The Rajayathana stupa was constructed by two warring Naga kings, Chulodara and Mahodara, at the site where Lord Buddha during His second visit to the country on a Bak Maha Amawaka Poya Day, five years after attaining Enlightenment, intervened and mediated in settling a dispute over the possession of a gem-studded throne. The precious throne was offered to the lord Buddha, was returned to the Naga Kings and was later enshrined in this Rajayathana stupa. Back to Hotel. . It is the administrative headquarters of the Jaffna district located on a peninsula of the same name. With a population of 88,138, Being strategically located and known for rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.Jaffna is approximately six miles (9.7 kilometres) away from Kandarodai which served as a famous emporium in the Jaffna peninsula from classical antiquity. Jaffna | Dambulla

Jaffna / Dambulla. Breakfast at the Hotel. Transfer to Dambula with Sight seen. Check in to Hotel & Rest. In the Evening Visit Dambulla Cave Temple. This is a vast isolated rock mass 500 feet high and a mile around the base. Here is found the famous Rock Temple dating to the First Century B.C. The caves of Dambulla sheltered King Walagamba during his 14 years of exile from Anuradhapura. When he regained the throne he built the most magnificent of Rock Temples to be found in the Island. Dambulla | Dambulla

–Dambulla/ Sigiriya/Polonnaruwa / Dambulla Breakfast at the Hotel. Transfer to Sigiriya & Climb Sigiriya Lon’s Rock Climb Sigiriya Lions Rock. Sigiriya, the stupendous 5th century A.D. rock-fortress citadel of a fugitive king, where history merges with melodrama. The Royal Pleasure Gardens are considered to be one of the earliest extended landscaped gardens in Asia. A gallery of frescoes of shapely be-jeweled maidens still glows with vibrant color and the water. Another distinctive feature of Sigiriya is the Mirror Wall which is located just below the paintings. Climb Down from Sigiriya. Transfer to Polonnaruwa & Visit Polonnaruwa Ancient City. Lankatilake, Tivanka and Thuparama are the most beautiful and largest Image Houses and Tivanka has the best examples of frescoes of the Polonnaruwa period. Rankoth Vehera and Kirivehera are well preserved large stupas, and Gal Vihare - a rock shrine, has four Buddha statues, two seated, one standing and one reclining and Parakrama Bahu statue are examples of Sinhalese stone carver. The Vata-da-ge is a unique creation of the Sri Lankan artists. The medieval capital, Polonnaruwa was fortified with inner & outer moats and inner & outer walls. The Parakrama Samudra is on the western side of the city. The Royal Palace, Audience Hall and other buildings in the inner city were enclosed by another tall wall. Back to Hotel. Visiti Aukana Statue The Avukana statue - Standing statue of the Buddha near Kekirawa inNorth Central Sri Lanka. The statue, which has a height of more than 40 feet (12 m), has been carved out of a large granite rock face during the 5th century. It depicts a variation of the Abhaya mudra, and the closely worn robe is elaborately carved. Constructed during the reign of Dhatusena, it may have been made as a result of a competition between a master and a pupil. Avukana statue is one of the best examples of a standing statue constructed in ancient Sri Lanka. It is now a popular tourist attraction in the country Transfer to Kandy . Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still lovingly kept alive. Drive around the Kandy Lake built by the last Sinhala king, Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1798. Head Focus to Nuwaraeliya Check in to Hotel in Nuwaraeliya. Nuwara Eliya Nuwaraeliya, because of its invigorating mountain climate and scenery, is Sri Lanka s most popular hill resort. Nuwaraeliya is also the heart of Sri Lanka s tea country producing a significant share of the world best tea. Sri Lanka s highest mountain Pidurutalagala (8282 feet) is located here. Nuwaraeliya also has one of the finest 18 whole golf courses in South Asia. Gregory Lake Gregory Lake was build under the period of British Governor Sir William Gregory in 1873. This is the most prominent attraction in Nuwara Eliya and all the visitors used to come here and spent some time by the lake and relax. It is well known for the Sri Pada, i.e. , "sacred footprint", Arabic Jabal Adam a 1.8 m (5 ft 11 in) rock formation near the summit, which in Buddhist tradition is held to be the footprint of the Buddha, in Hindu tradition that of Shiva and in Islamic and Christian tradition that of Adam, or that of St. Thomas In Islamic tradition it is the site where Adam fell to earth and where his footprint can be found.

Muthiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya lies in the middle of the busy city of Baddulla in the Uva province. The History of this temple goes back to the time of Buddha but this area around Badulla (specially Uva Province) goes way back in to the time of 19th – 18th century BC. It is believed a During this time the a mighty king called Ravana was ruling this the country with Badulla as the capital. It is also believed that the War of Rama and Ravana in the Indian Epic also happened in this area. There are many places and names which identifies this area (such as Seetha Eliya, Seetha Kotuwa, Ravana Ella) as the location described in this Indian epic. It is said that the Ravana finally lost the war and winner Vibishana took the capital to Kelaniya and the Uva gradually got lost in history until the 5th century BC. People from South India also go there to worship. The town has the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama devalaya, a shrine dedicated to Skanda-Murukan also known as Kataragamadevio. Kataragama is in the Monaragala District of Uva province, Sri Lanka. Although Kataragama was a small village in medieval times, today it is a fast-developing township surrounded by jungle in the southeastern region of Sri Lanka. It houses the ancient Kiri Vehera Buddhist stupa. The town has a venerable history dating back to the last centuries BCE. It was the seat of government of many Sinhalese kings during the days of Rohana kingdom. After the Visit. Continue Journey to Galle . Check in to Hotel & Rest. In the Evening Visit Avalokitheshwara Buddha’s Statue. This more than life size relief carved in solid rock is thought to be one of the best statues in the Mahayanist Buddhism in Sri Lanka. It opens to the Indian Ocean Madu lagoon is a very wide and a beautiful lagoon in Sri Lanka. Bentota Bentota is a coastal town in Sri Lanka, located in the Galle District of the Southern Province, governed by an Urban Council. It is approximately 65 kilometers (40 mi) south of Colombo and 56 kilometers (35 mi) north of Galle. Bentota is situated on the southern bank of the Bentota River mouth, at an elevation of 3 meters (9.8 ft) above the sea level. The name of the town is derived from a mythical story which claims a demon named 'Bem' ruled the tota or river bank. Kosgoda turtle hatchery Where you can see five species of turtles-Green Turtles (Chelonia mydas), Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta caretta), Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) and Olive Ridley Turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea). The eggs collected by the Villagers and Fishermen are purchased by the Kosgoda Hatchery and kept in sandy pens until they are hatched. The newly hatched ones are kept in seawater tanks and released to the sea in the night. This Hatchery alone has released more than 1,750,000 young turtles to the sea. An endowment by the Hasselblad Estate was responsible for the establishment of this hatchery. Proceed Colombo & check in to Hotel. Evening visit Kelaniya Rajamaha Viaharaya. The Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara or Kelaniya Temple is a Buddhist temple in Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, seven miles from Colombo. The Chief Incumbent (Chief Priest) is Venerable Professor Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkhitha Thera. Buddhists believe the temple to have been hallowed during the third and final visit of the Lord Buddha to Sri Lanka, eight years after gaining enlightenment. Its history would thus go back to before 500 BCE. The Mahawansa records that the original Stupa at Kelaniya enshrined a gem-studded throne on which the Buddha sat and preached. Back to Hotel.
