Situated in the Anuradhapura District of Sri Lanka, Habarana is a small town that isn't of much interest in
itself. It is mostly used as a base by tourists to set off to surrounding areas, thanks to its proximity to
places like Minneriya and Kadulla National Parks. The rock fortress Sigiriya, one of the most popular
attractions in Sri Lanka, is also located in the nearby city of Dambulla.
If you are interested in exploring the town of Habarana itself, there are a couple places you can visit.
These include the Habarana Temple, one of the oldest Buddhist temples in the country with several
Buddha statues and stupas, and the Habarana Lake, a public area where you can have a relaxing stroll
and spot many kinds of water birds and reptiles. While these might not be as much of a spectacle than
some of the more famous sights in Sri Lanka, they might still be worth a visit purely for their cultural
significance. The town is also famous for elephant safaris.
